Following on from Foxcote’s committment to regenerative farming and their objective to improve soil health and fertility, they are now seeing the great results from using White Mustard as a Green Manure.
After a fallow period, a crop of White Mustard was drilled to produce a high volume of Bio Mass which was ploughed in the soil as organic matter. Following this Winter Wheat was drilled and the results are looking magnificent, as shown in the pictures below
At the heart of Regenerative Agriculture is the soil. Improving or restoring soils that have suffered degrading are rebuilt using organic matter to increase soil biology. When your soil is in excellent, structural condition, the all-important micro-organisms increase their ability to retain water and store carbon.
The theory is that the healthier your soil is, you’ll grow healthier crops, which return healthier profits. In turn, this also helps to remove carbon from the atmosphere.
